Google's self driving car

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS MIGHTY LET THIS HAPPEN. I just want to be able to drive myself home from the bar without risk of going to jail.

Well. I have bad blood with Google's innovations Group, but I blasted the driver-less car concept on my fb page. I'll paste it in when I get the chance.
 
Will it be street legal everywhere, and what about insurance if one runs amok.

imo it'd take an act of parliment in Oz.

What if it get's a virus!?

What if it breaks and we have a fatal crash?

This is what will be running in people's heads.

Although I think the idea is brilliant, and I've often heard that if an entire city is run by self-driving cars, controlled by a hub, then there would be virtually no traffic. Crashes would go down significantly. Not to mention the advantages it would give someone who's disabled.

I'm curious what it would take to make these things legal. I almost feel like the law would require someone that can drive (with license), who's alert, and not drunk or sleeping to be at the wheel at all times.
