Google voice?

After almost half a year of waiting, I finally received an invite to google voice.

And my first impression is one of sheer amazement. The transcripts are terrible, but the use of it is great.

Basically what you do is call your new google number, (that you choose). Google then sends the call to any phone you put into the system. Either a cell, a work number, a second line, whatever dependent on who is calling. You can then answer on your line, or send it to voice message, or listen in on the voice message then decide to answer (kinda like with an answering machine.)

Domestic calls are free. You can make it from a cell phone, calling your google number, or roll the call from Google Voice's page. Type the number in, your primary line rings, you answer, it transfers the call out.

You can even have it ask for the callers name if they aren't on your contacts yet and it will tell you who is calling before you decide to answer.

It's like having your own secretary. Anyone else using it yet?

I did find a small inconvenience, I need to dial a "1" before dialing from my home phone.

Watched the demo video. Looks very cool. And imagine if the speech recognition improves. But, what's the catch? Where does Google put their advertising?

Google doesn't actually use computers to do all their work, so they don't need a lot of money for all their projects.
All of Google’s computing power comes from its users who by signing up for a Google account agree to let Google use 10% of your brain power like SETI @ home
