I've found a lot of Streetview pics where the vehicles kept on taking pictures when they stop for gas, when they stop at restaurants, etc.

I worked on the original Streetview capture vehicles and post back in 2006 when Google was licensing that footage from the company I worked for. The old camera is pictured at the top of that website. After the first ten odd cities they in-sourced the production and started using a different type of camera that had different advantages and disadvantages.
