Researchers at the EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) have created a way to store data in the form of DNA – a material that lasts for tens of thousands of years. The new method, published today in the journal Nature, makes it possible to store at least 100 million hours of high-definition video in about a cup of DNA.

Pretty cool stuff. Wonder how long it wil be before this becomes commercially viable.

Watching this develop will be interesting.
How about future cameras that record to DNA and come with a lifetime supply of data storage built in? Or Zettabyte desktop storage modules for your computer?

Don't hold your breath. This kind of thing usually comes out so slowly that by the time it's in stores it's just about as good as what was previously there.
I've been reading about quantum computers for decades now...

That could be weird...around the world teenage boys and middleaged men stuck in loveless marriages would accidently get their computers pregnant...

Or you could upload your own DNA to the computer and then it could mate with other machines over the Internet to produce your clones all over the world (or by that time, probably the rest of the solar system as well). :)

Yeah, but by then consumers will mindlessly be demanding 20,000K sensors. So it will store only one hour.
