good work lights

I am looking to buy some worklights since I cant afford the higher end lights. Can anyone suggest a good solid worklight?

Just go to Home Depot and get the unit that has two 500w lights at the top. The fixtures and stand are usually bright yellow colored. Or skip ahead a bit past the part where you'll get tired of the heat and just buy some fluorescent lights at Home Depot. N:Vision 5500K 30w or 40w Spirals in a clamp worklight or 4 foot daylight tubes (85 CRI or higher) in a 4 light fixture with electronic ballast. Those are good places to start.

Save up some more money and buy some used equipment from a rental house. Trust me, you will be much happier with the quality of the equipment and the versatility of what you will be able to do with it.

Or skip past the part where you get tired of working with worklights and shoplights and do what mrblue1022 said and buy some used stuff from ebay. but the comments about heat still apply...

Yeah, Molle Richardson stuff can be found pretty easily on Ebay, and goes for pretty cheap. It's also bomb-proof, and if well cared for, will last pretty much indefinitely. If you're buying flouro fixtures, make sure and get electronic ballasts. I bought a 4' 2 bulb fixture and coated the inside with aluminum tape to increase the light output- the thing works great, and I think it cost me all of 14 dollars with the bulbs, tape, and fixture. The biggest problem with the work-lights IMO is the lack of a good way to adapt them to REAL light stands and c-stands. Also, the stock globes tend to be warmer than 3200K. Some of those silver bowl clamp lights are really handy to have, I use GE "reveal" bulbs in mine, and I feel that they pretty closely match 3200K.

Everything PDX_DVX said is also valid except for the adapting to a regular light stand. You can use an inexpensive adapter like shown at the link below at the bottom of the yoke and it goes on a light stand, no problem. You still have the problems of it being about 2900K (or lower even), no barndoors, an open face flood light only and a UV heat generator on top of all that as an added bonus.

I just bought two 1K Strands and one 2K mole with stands for 604 bucks used. Pyramid Films. They're on e-bay.

Oh yeah - they all had globes, lenses, barn doors....everything. And the stands are mole as well. Nice bulletproof stuff.
