I am shooting my first short film and would like to own the equipment instead of renting ....

Do you think this a good wish list for a first timer with a small budget ( under 10 k)

pan. pro hmc150 = 3500

FCPS2 = 1200

Sennheiser ew100ENGG2 Lavalier Wireless System = 700

Manfrotto 190XPROB 3 Section Aluminum Pro Tripod = 150

not sure which ball to use yet

Thats my list, any thing else i should add .. or delete

Thanks in advance for helping :beer:

I don't like lav mics. But that's your choice.

I notice there's no budget for lighting. Does that mean you already have it down? At the very least you need some shiny boards and something to hold it (a stand or a production assistant both work). And don't forget to have food for full days.

Sennheiser ew100ENGG2 Lavalier Wireless System are $599.99
LED Lite Panels if u are doing interviews is great. $249.95
Is there a tripod head on there? 503 rocks for low cost!
Cheers

i saw some cheap lighting tips from indy mogul thought i would try ... some clamp lights and rice paper thought would maybe do the trick...

naive , i know..lol

Still need to pay for them. I recommend chinese lanterns if you can get something to hang them from. Reflectors are more important than those lights to me, get some cardboard with tin foil on one side and white paint on the other. Or some windshield reflectors. There is a lot you can do if you work at it, experiment. And it's fun to not have access to anything you can think of, trying to creatively figure out how to get what you want out of the scene.

I've been working through the same challenge. Here's what I'm planning to get within the next week:
* Panasonic HMC150
* (2) Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Card Reader...don't need two card readers but only $6 more than the card itself, figure one can stay home and one can go on the road.
* Libec LS38M(2A) (w/mid-level spreaders) (Would really like the Miller Solo but can't spend the extra money right now. I'll eventually upgrade and use the Libec for photography or 2nd video cam)
* Audio-Technica AT875R Short Shotgun Microphone
* Lowel Basically 3 Light Kit with TO-83 Case
* Extra 7.2v 5800 mAh Battery

Can get all of the above for right about $5,500 on Amazon. Prices are about the same at B&H but the HMC150 is back-ordered 2-4 weeks. I might actually order the cam from Amazon (direct, not sub-seller) and the rest from B&H.

I already have FCS2, which I bought on eBay last year for less than $900 (can't remember exact price but it is 100% legit and was unregistered when I bought it). Just make sure you read the post, ask lots of questions of the seller, checkout their feedback, and pay using Paypal.

I also already have a backpack for the camera, which you'll definitely want. I got a slightly-used-but-nearly-perfect condition Lowepro Mini Trekker and it works great (I had a HVX200A for about 2 weeks but returned it so I had more money to spend on other gear). It's a good-sized backpack that holds a lot without being so bulky. It's just slightly bigger than a normal backpack.

Hope this helps.

PS. Just a couple of other thoughts/questions:
* Don't forget a lens filter. I have a B+W 72mm UV Haze 010 (MRC), which is gonna set you back $120.
* Don't forget little things like XLR cables, headphones, etc if you don't have them

Also, don't forget to budget money to learn FCS2 unless you already know how to use it. $25/month will get you a subscription to lynda.com...invaluable resource IMHO.

I just read about this site last night Im also trying to throw shake in there 2

It seems most people dont like lavs but are recommending boom/shotgun ?

In your opinon is it a smart idea for a guy with a tight budget to learn his own efx and the have them tweaked by a pro or will it most likely come out crap ?

I have all the time in the world not much cash ..lol
