I'm looking at the Manfrotto 564b + 504 head
is there anything in this range that can support the same amount of weight?
max is $700
support atleast 35lbs but preferred 45lb

Once in a blue moon, a Miller DS10 Solo Aluminum kit shows up on the swamp for less than $800. Unfortunately, Blue moons are rare. Manfrotto I suppose.

35 to 45 pound payload?

The tripod/head combo you listed has a realistic payload of 15 pounds.

Highly doubt you'll get a good fluid head with that kind of payload for $700.

Like the other guy said, a used DS-10 can be had for $700. I paid $780 for mine but got it with CF legs.

What kind of camera are you shooting with?

blackmagic and gh2/3

i don't need that high of a payload, only when using the slider/jib
but something around 20-30 lbs should be good

the jib is 10-12lbs
slider is 10lbs
gh2 is around 2lbs and blackmagic is ~4 without any accessories
i have 2 gh2, one is rigged and one isn't, i would use the unrigged one but sometimes would prefer the bmc

Here's my take on it... Buy the best used tripod/head you can afford!
You will more than likely change out cameras every 3 years, but a good head/sticks will last a lifetime.

The best bet would be a DS-20 then. Don't get the Manfrottos - they're toys compared to the Millers. I'm pretty new to film and even I can tell how much better Millers are.

Be patient - I've seen great sets of used DS-20s go on eBay for around $600 recently.

Here's a review we just did of the 504HD/546B Kit, hope it helps.

It's in Spanish with English subtitles (Click CC), enjoy :)
