Good stereo microphone?

Looking for a good stereo mic for my HVX. The built in mic breaks up a lot in very loud environments. Even without peaking I get distortion. My DVX didn't do that...

Suggestions welcome...

Thanks. :D

I assume you want a shotgun.

If so, I have a Audio Technica AT-835ST that I use on my HVX and am very happy with. It's a stereo shotgun with selectable pickup pattern (narrow stereo, wide stereo, mid/side channels), and it has very good sound reproduction.

It will not encroach on the image when mounted on the HVX even when I use my Century Optics / Schneider 0.6x WA adapter.

THoff: I use the AT-835ST on my HPX2000 and love this mike. What is your procedure for hooking up to the HVX? 5 pin to 3pin cable?

Standard 3-pin XLR into the HVX and using phantom power from the camera. I don't use the low-frequency rolloff switch, I find the sound more pleasing and natural (even voices) when rolloff is disabled. Self-noise is pretty good.

What are you typically recording?

My issues are when I record at concerts...rock and hip hop. I generally have mics around the stage and a feed from the board but it's nice to have sound on the camera that doesn't "pop". I use it as crowd noise sometimes. The HVX can't handle the volume as well as the DVX did.

In that case you want a dynamic (condenser) microphone -- they are very resistant to high sound pressure levels. I would ask in the Audio subforum for recommendations.

I just got a rode ntg-2. Does anyone else have this on an HVX? I stuck it in the microphone mount that came with the HVX and mounted it on the camera, but its a little... loose? I mean it's fairly secure, but if I were to run around wildly with my camera, I feel like I could have a problem. Is this normal, or do any of you out there with a NTG-2 and a HVX have a little fitter or something like that?
