Good source of royalty free music (that isnt cheesy)

Dont know if this is the right forum, so feel free to move this.

I am working on a video that's mostly a talking head but in a "behind the scenes" style shoot. I need to find some music that isnt terribly expensive for this. Most of the stuff out there, if you search under "corporate" or "industrial" just sounds terrible - wayyy too cheesy ..
I would prefer something that's energetic; rock would probably work best here. I've looked at some sites like music bakery and am having a hard time - also, searching is kinda tough.

so... anyone have some suggestions of where else to look?
Thanks

Digital Juice has some that is good to cheezy. THey are dumping the line right now so the prices are pretty good and you can listen to them online before you buy. Also they are "layered" so you can separate out some instruments, ie drop down to just rhythm section for awhile etc.

Hey Fiddler.. Feel free to check out some of my tunages.. if it fits your project, we can talk further. I've got a few 'rockesk' tracks, but you never what you'll find.

A bit of self-promotion, but you might consider the ZirconTrax production music library (http://www.zircontrax.com). We have a very solid roster of composers and an very high bar of quality. Having worked with a ton of royalty-free/stock libraries before, I know what it's like to have to wade through tons of cheesy, low-quality music... so I went out of my way to find great talent for this and avoid the cheap-sounding stuff.

The site is less than a month old, so we're adding new tracks literally every day. If you can't immediately find what you want, feel free to email or PM me and I'd be happy to help (I might have the track you need in a queue to be uploaded!)

Jeez, I'm glad I'm not the only one who's been scouring the royalty free sites and been unimpressed. Zircon's got some good stuff, looking forward to seeing them growing.

I dunno if you guys are the same but for me it really helps me edit when I have the actual music, not just a temp track. Perhaps it's because I got my start in audio.

Although I do know Walter Murch has said he actually edits the picture silently at first (literally even removing the dialogue track at times) so that he can imagine the sound he wants while creating a rhythm of his own with the picture.

I make the audio track first then edit to it for TV ads. I make it sound good as an audio only track, then bend the video to match. For features your at the will of the editor who hands it to you (since I don't have my own feature) and need to bend the music to fit the story.

thanks for the replies everyone. I also tend to edit for music. don't know if it's cause i'm a musician as well, but I find it easier - especially for stuff that's driven more by mood / beat.

Anyone have Video Copilot's scores? I'm thinking about picking them up...

I have VC Pro Scores. If you want to compose your own music then it's probably a good buy. But I have yet to use any of the music as they all seem a bit too specific.

Here's another source that hasn't been particularly helpful to me, but might be of use to everyone:

If you're doing commercial work, then you can't use it, but if you're just looking for atmospheric pieces for an independent film, there's some good stuff.

Lately I have been using Audio Network. http://www.audionetworkplc.com/

I highly recommend them... :)

They are one of the best online and have some top shelf composers (and clients). They have a huge collection of high quality music, and many pieces contain vocals. They also have sound effects. Recently I purchased a "Blanket License" agreement for our documentary Politics, Sex and Vodka that is currently in post. 90% of the projects music and sfx will come from Audio Network. The Blanket agreement was a very good value for our type of usage. You can also go with a needle drop price as well.

I just asked this is another thread and see it's going on here...

I use Jamendo, which has a lot of CC music (some you can even use for commercial use) I'm looking for something similar.
