Good short stories to adapt

I need to adapt something into a short film around 5 minutes. Anyone know any good short stories, blogs, news, articles etc or sites where I can look around that have interesting things.

You realize there are copyright implications involved with using short stories, blogs, etc., right?

What is it that you really need? To write a script? Or to make a film? Is there any reason why you can't just use a script already written by someone else?

I don't know what you're looking to make, but H.P. Lovecraft has a bunch of stories in the public domain that are short. Librivox.com is a good place to look as well.

Regarding short stories, I think you're going to have a tough time finding actual published ones that are short enough to be made into a 5 minute film. Most "short stories" are quite long by cinema standards, which is why they most often get made into *feature films*. A 5 minute film probably represents about a page or two of prose storytelling. *Very* few short stories are anywhere near that brief...

Of course you might be able to adapt/edit one down to that length, or just do a small section of it, but that might just as well apply to any longer work.

I suspect your other avenues, like news stories, anecdotes etc. might be more fertile ground.

Or you could just...ahem...make one up...

Totally agreed on adaptation of short stories.

I find that the best "short film" stories have an extremely simple concept. Proportionally, I find some of the ones I enjoy best have a longer setup and struggle time and deliver the punchline without too much resolution, leaving it to the viewers imagination.
