Good SFX Websites

Hey,
My harddrive just got wiped, and I lost all of the good Royalty Free (and free in general) sound effects websites that I had bookmarked. I'm specifically looking for motorcycle sounds, but most of what I've found so far has been terrible quality, and I know that there are better sounds out there. Any suggestions for websites I should check out?

I'm sure this is a common topic, but I couldn't find anything in the last 5 pages or so of threads, so sorry if it's a repost.

Thanks!

Check soundsnap.com

You have to register then you can download 5 sfx a month for free (it used to be completely free and all you can download). Some of the sfx aren't the best but I've gotten some really good stuff from there.

Soundsnap has better SFX in general imho, but as was pointed out is limited based on what you're willing to pay.

With FreeSound.org there's a lot of complete junk, some okay junk, and roughly 5% of reasonable sounds from my experience. If you've got the time, you can usually find what you need, but after a while a SoundSnap subscription doesn't seem so bad as it's just faster to find what you need without having to weed through so many bad recordings.

I still use both though just depending on what I'm doing.

Well he did ask for "free" sound libraries and neither Sound Ideas nor Sound Snap are free. And sound Ideas is not downloadable except from Sound Dogs (as far as I know). Now if you have some $ then the world opens up a LOT. Personally I find Hollywood Edge more "usable" in general than Sound Ideas, and they have some smaller libraries that are a bit more affordable. The biggest bargain in quality is probably the BBC libraries. Digital Juice has some very cheap libraries but there is a lot of junk, or more accurately "cheesy" sound FX in the sets so maybe 1/4 are "quality" 1/4 are fine for some things and the other 1/2 are "cheesy" which you need sometimes.

Thanks for all of your replies. I'm doing the final sound touches on my first feature, (Budget approx $600... take that robert rodriguez!) and it's really exciting to see what a huge production value sound effects can add to a no budget movie. I've learned a lot from you guys.

So are you in WA or Los Altos? If your local (SF) you can drop over and pull some stuff from my library if you need it.

Cheers

Hey, I'm actually in Wa right now (I go to college up here at UW), so that would be a long drive! Thanks though.
