hey guys looking for a reasonably priced hazer to purchase ...I'd rent but it seems out here where i am they dont really use them..but instead opt for smoke machines. I don' t like smoke machines and would like to add a more subtle atmosphere with a hazer unit to add something to my cinematography, but don't wanna spend an arm and a leg just for that. Any Ideas?

So using haze juice in a smoke machine would yeild the same effect?

No it will not. Foggers are completely different animals than hazers. Foggers suddenly release vast amount of fluid into the heated chamber where as hazers release a very small amount of fluid on a continuing basis.

I generally work on smaller locations, not large movie sets. In our testing with a small fogger using the same dispersal time for example, the difference was obvious between the products, dense fog vs fog vs haze.

i bought a bunch of smoke bombs i use now - cheap as all get out (50 cents to one dollar and tons of smoke!)
You are not really supposed to light them inside , but they dont really spark so keep some water around.
I love haze and smoke machines - its a hard break - maybe better to rent and industrial size one
I buy cheap ones and keep them around - most of them except the industrial size ones will burn out when you leave them on too long - also - clog up permanently
they get HOT!

You could make an oil cracker. They can be great. Used one once on a Lenny kravitz video. Basically blasting compressed air through vegetable oil in a container. Ours was a 4' tall 6" PVC pipe sealed at one end to keepthe oil in and a compressor hose blasting air through the oil. Also cheapy cheapy cheap way is to just burn a bunch of incense. That gives a light amount of atmosphere, indoors only.
