good pro audio dealer!

After a lot of Web research and some phone calls, I think I've found the equivalent of EVS in audio gear: Bayview Pro Audio. They'll beat virtually any price, have stuff in stock, offer free shipping, are reasonable about returns, and are very pleasant. All the comments I've read are enthusiastic. (NOTE: If you email for an automated quote, you'll get a second email later in the day telling you to call for a "sweet deal offer." And if you call, they really do go considerably lower than the first quote.)

Re: good pro audio dealer!

THATS GOOD - DO THEY KNOW WHAT ARE THEY SELLING AND IF IT FIS YOU ;-)?

Re: good pro audio dealer!

Just be careful. Many places like that sell b-stock, or grey market product to blow it out at really low prices, but they tell you it's brand new. I don't know if that's true of this place, though.

Re: good pro audio dealer!

And they don't seem to carry an extensive selection on film/broadcast audio. Especially field equipment.

Re: good pro audio dealer!

All I can tell you is, everything I've read on ratings web sites and Usenet groups indicates that they're very reliable, honest, etc. Primary focus is audio for musicians, but they do have useful things that EVS doesn't (like the Marantz PMD670).

Re: good pro audio dealer!

True. Just get a quote from Dave Fisk (Coffeysound) before going in for any purchase, he not only works for the best audio pro store for cine/broadcast, but is also very knowledgeable and helpful.

Re: good pro audio dealer!

They don't handle Marantz, and seem to specialize 5-figure recorders. I'm sure it's the best, but I can't afford their stuff.

Re: good pro audio dealer!

I can get you whatever you want. I deal with everything from the Deva V to the Marantz PMD670, to Azden wireless. If you have a list of equpment you are looking to get, just send me an e-mail, and I'll give you a quote.

Dave, bubby, where were you two years ago (or more to the point, where the hell was I).

Nice to know there's a pusher in the neighborhood.

Well, I've been at Coffey Sound for almost 3 years now, but I've only been on this forum for the past couple of months. Oleg actually turned me on to it.

Just so you guys know, I'm not on here to try and push product on you people, but if you do need something, just let me know. Make sure you mention that you saw me on here so I can give you as good a price as possible.

Re: good pro audio dealer!

I keep tabs on all the pro audio for film & video dealers and I've never heard of bayview. you mentioned they are for musicians. that explains it. there is a big difference in film sound and music sound recording. there is some overlap but not much.
The major players in film sound are:
Gotham Sound, NY
ATS, DC
TAI Audio, Fla.
Trew Audio, TN
Location Sound, LA
Coffee Sound, LA
There are probably a few others but these are the major US sound equipment houses. They all have websites.
They also have used equipment lists!
One thing you will find is there isn't much difference in the prices of most pro gear. The manufacturer sets the minimum.
Happy shopping!
