One of the greatest tangents ever!
Meandering through the hardware store today and happened upon an interesting little addendum to our discussion:

It's an Edison-style bulb with 3-position selectable (by SWITCH, not some firkin' APP) color temperature, and 'dimmable.' I picked up a 60W-equivalent (~$10) to get an idea of the emitters they're using, and how their 2700K/4000K/5000K functions with semi-standard 3200/4300/5500 presets. Thinking these as a slightly-warmer-than-key practical, with fewer bulbs to pack in the 'oh crap' case. Initially thinking it looks 'ok' from tossing it into a clamp light fixture, but will need more thorough testing for color accuracy, flicker, and all that fun stuff.
Depending on results, that 500W-equivalent ColorChoice might be a mighty interesting choice for soft box or china ball applications
