Good Plugins?

It's getting a little heated in here...

I like the idea of exploiting AE to that 98% capacity, that way you are practically invinsible! The only plugs I use regularly is eLin. Other than that I use MB and Trapcode only every once in a while. Personally, you can do everything you want with Levels, Curves, Hue/Saturation, Fractal Noise, Displacement Map, and a few other odds and ends. Couple those with a few masks and good footage and it's like magic.

First of all, that wasn't meant as a slap at you, rather at the individual who started this thread and inhereted plug-ins from a "friend."

But secondly, I'll happily stand behind what I said-- these plug-ins are MEANT to be exlcusive because most people don't need them. The people that have the need can buy them. The ones that don't... well, you know the drill by now. You've proven my point exactly-- "98 percent of anything a plugin can do you can do it yourself." So why pirate, as that was what this was really about? Why not instead learn to use AE to that 98% capacity? Oh, right, because that person is lazy.
I would love to find anyone doing this for a living who would agree that my statement is "One of the dumbest statements I've ever seen on here." Program and intellectual property rights are of the highest concern to everyone I've ever met in the business. If you're playing by a different set of rules, more power to you.

That's certainly one point of view. But here's another:
My example was that someone could choose to more wisely allocate more wisely their money if there was something that they "needed." And this is another example of that. There is, in my opinion, no "must have" feature in AE 7. Therefore, I'm choosing to allocate my AE upgrade money towards other things that I consider more important-- such as Walter's DVDs & new lights.

We're taking things VERY personal today, aren't we?

Sorry Dave..it turns out my irritation was caused by a lack of food. I just got back from Subway ($2.99 combo deal today!) and feel much better. Let's all get along and give peace a chance. Let's also all call adobe and get them to stop being so archaic and come up with a decent program. Shake it up.

I wasn't trying to be combative... it's just a sore spot with me! I had a guy not long ago that I caught downloading music on company time AND had installed a bunch of cracked plug-ins on our machine... and I caught the heat for it. Moral leanings aside (and I do believe in what I've said), this issue manifests itself in 100s of little ways that I never expected.

I worked at a Subway once when I was a teen, by the way. It's far and away the cleanest fast food establishment I've ever seen. It's one of the few fast foods I can still eat.

Dude *** yo couch

How the hell is that me being *** lazy?? Ok..yeah ive used pirated plugins before in the past here or there...but im not making any profit from making things with these plugs. I duno ytf ur spazzin out like a *** on crack..dude..calm down.

"If you're not buying them, you're just lazy, cheap, or so undertalented that no one will pay for your work."
Like i said before...i dont do videos for money.

"People that pirate movies/music/plug-ins/whatever REALLY piss me off. Pleading poverty is just embarassing. I pray that you get burned by someone stealing YOUR work later on down the road."
Thats nice to kno...and btw...im only 15..so i dont have a job

the only reason I have these plugs is to learn how to use them...so wen i eventually get a business..id buy the software...jus like u....but u dont have to be a douche about me jus asking some questions and the fact that i said that i might get the number..and theres also the possibility that he might not even give me the number.

Man it doesn't matter if you're making money or not. I'm not able to go steal a race car and drive it for free only until I actually enter a race with it, then have to pay the sticker price.

Many plugin companies offer free demos on their site. If you are really just looking to learn them, download and install the demos. They'll just render a watermark over top, but if you're not doing any real work with them, then there's no problem, right?

Well said Kai! You shall not fear the watermark for learning purposes.

Here's a thought, use the demo, then get a job for the skills you acquired, then pass on the cost to the customer. Why pay for your own software when you can have someone else reimburse you? That's how I did it.
