Good Plugins?

hey...my friend burned me a few plugins for AE that he got from his friend..and I was wonderin if any of these were good...

Invigorator from Zaxwerks 3D text
Digital Film Lab...some CC plugin
Vegas
Sapphire..and theres like 5 different plugins for this..like rendered...CC...and all these other things.

I'm assuming these are all legal copies you purchased, correct?

If so, Invigorator is good for some things, is kinda outdated though.
Vegas comes with AE
Sapphire makes some good plugs, depending on which set you have.

These BETTER be legal... although as memory serves, Sapphire has some pretty good copy protection built in.

If you have a newer version of AE, you should already have Invigorator. I'm excited about their new ProA 4 that works as a plug-in, actually.

Don't know about Digital Film Lab... but AE comes with SA's color corrector, which is one of the most comprehensive that I've ever seen. I wish I had $2K (or whatever it's up to) for the control surface.

Vegas isn't a plug in, it's an editor... and a damn fine one at that!

The Sappire packages are amazing... but far out of my price range. I wish I had friends like yours.

There actually is a plugin called "vegas" I dont remember at the moment who its by or feel like turning on the computer, if I remember correctly it colorizes in "vegas" style..

Invigorator is usually on a disc included in the box.

Vegas is a built in plugin that adds those flashing moving lights to a mask channel. Kinda corny imo.

Invigotator comes standard in AE 6.5? I have never seen this included in an AE package.

I suppose that I should append that somewhat...

I'm pretty sure that it comes standard with AE 6.5; I KNOW it does with AE 6.5 Pro.

Unless you bought the educational version. Then that & the CC effects are omitted.

No joke I'd love to pick up the CS-1 (control surface). It's $4k though!!! Would be great if it did more than let you do the same thing you can do on screen

It's a shame it's so specialized. AE & Synthetic Ap. need to really look at the audio side of things & take the model to heart. I'm betting that it's not THAT difficult to create a midi control surface that would work with these programs.

I use an audio control surface with Vegas, but it's buggy (what do you expect from Behringer, though?). Now, imagine if they did a hybrid audio/video control surface that could be universally integrated? Assignable trackballs for color correction or graphic placement in AE or Motion, or for trimming clips.

The possibilities are endless!

I have been using a 3D software. that is good for everything, and you won't need expensive plug-ins

True... but that's balanced by the fact that you need expensive 3D software, which offsets the plug-in savings.

There is value in having a solid 3d package and toolset to supplement your work, but I wouldn't rely solely on it. At least not in my line of work. There are some things you just can't do in 3D, and vice versa.

All the plugins i have are legal..yes..im not always up to no good..but i dont have the full version of invigorator...tryin to get my friends serial number because he bought it a few months ago.

with the Sapphire plugins...i got ALL of them..i think theres like 6 or 7 of them..im too lazy to downstairs and turn the comp on and count.

who is 55MM made by? and wat about CS-1?

Bro, if you're getting the serial from your friend, then its not legal. By legal, I was meaning did you purchase them as originals yourself. If not, its probably best to keep that chat off the boards. Evidence, ya know? :)

Good point matey. Arghghhh!

Seriously though...the prices for plugs are outrageous.

if all plugins were as cheap as trapcode shine then the world would be great :)

honestly, $1k for some plugins is insane...

btw, "getting it from a friend" in ur case would still be pirating...unless you, youself somehow own all the originals.

But isn't that exactly the point? I've never met anyone that NEEDED a plug-in, just ones that were too cheap to pay for them. And hell, if someone held a gun to your head and said "Get this plug in, or else...," you could save the money by cutting back on something else in your life. If you're not buying them, you're just lazy, cheap, or so undertalented that no one will pay for your work.

Hell, I'm still a full time student (still working on that B.A.!), but I find the time to have a family, shoot independent films, and work 60 hours a week to pay the rent and buy the gear I need.

People that pirate movies/music/plug-ins/whatever REALLY piss me off. Pleading poverty is just embarassing. I pray that you get burned by someone stealing YOUR work later on down the road.

lol..relax and calm down David. I don't need to use plugins for the most part. I've been using AE for over 6 years now and 98 percent of anything a plugin can do you can do it yourself. The trapcode plugs are the only ones of any use to most people.
I'm not lazy, cheap or undertalented and definatly don't have to work at a local cable station. I'm sure a lot of people that would be offended by such an obtuse statement such as the one you made. Does that mean that if you buy your plugins you are not lazy and have talent coming out your ass? Get real. That's actually funny. One of the dumbest statements I've ever seen on here. There are a lot of people out there who really can't afford software and just want to be creative and are not interested in selling a product. Are they lazy and untalented? It would seem that they are doing what they can do work hard and develop their skills.

And thank goodness I never bought the whole bundle. Crazy upgrade pricing...

that's something you wrote about adobe 7. The new features are definatly worth it. Are you just too cheap to pay for the upgrade David or is it you would have no idea how to use the new features? Here's a link for ya Dave. Maybe it'll help you learn how to use the program better:

First of all, that wasn't meant as a slap at you, rather at the individual who started this thread and inhereted plug-ins from a "friend."

But secondly, I'll happily stand behind what I said-- these plug-ins are MEANT to be exlcusive because most people don't need them. The people that have the need can buy them. The ones that don't... well, you know the drill by now. You've proven my point exactly-- "98 percent of anything a plugin can do you can do it yourself." So why pirate, as that was what this was really about? Why not instead learn to use AE to that 98% capacity? Oh, right, because that person is lazy.
I would love to find anyone doing this for a living who would agree that my statement is "One of the dumbest statements I've ever seen on here." Program and intellectual property rights are of the highest concern to everyone I've ever met in the business. If you're playing by a different set of rules, more power to you.

That's certainly one point of view. But here's another:
My example was that someone could choose to more wisely allocate more wisely their money if there was something that they "needed." And this is another example of that. There is, in my opinion, no "must have" feature in AE 7. Therefore, I'm choosing to allocate my AE upgrade money towards other things that I consider more important-- such as Walter's DVDs & new lights.

We're taking things VERY personal today, aren't we?
