I just got my editing pc built and am looking into overclocking...but before i do so i want to get a good temp. monitoring program. you guys know of any?
Motherboard moniter will read the information from your chipset.
There are a variety of thermometers you can get designed for compters, and some are buit into cases.
www.crystalfontz.com carries some nice LCD displays that plug into USB port and can report infomtaion from motherboard moniter as well as other programs (outlook, many mp3 players, etc...)
Most liquid cooling soluttions worth their salt include temperature monitering...and they are great of overclocking.
I have nothing against overclocking, and have done it myself, but I don't find it to be worth the hassle as much these days. When you were upping your processor speed by 25-50%, it was cool. All that fight for 12% just doesn't seem worth it to me.
You may, of course, feel otherwise. Adding a little instability to an editing machine is risky though. Yeah, it encodes and decodes faster, but if it crashes more, what have you gained? Spend the money you would have spent on cooling and monitering to get a faster processor.
