Good PC Config for Premier PRO HD Editing

Hi Guys,
I am planning to put up an editing studio setup for HD kind of editing. Please let me know a good config for the PC. I am planning for

1) I 7 Intel Processor
2) 16GB Ram ddr3
3) Supporting Motherboard
4) Two 22inch Samsung Monitor
5) Adobe Premier Pro CS4
6) 280i graphics card (Let me know if there is a better one at this range)
7) 5.1 Creative Speaker

I am sure i am missing many more things. Please help me what else do i need to buy. Thanks

The graphics card isn't going to do much, RAM is the most important. I highly recommend RAID arrays as well, and try to run the fastest hard drives you can get. You can even cut down on other stuff if you manage that one. An external drive case can be a huge help in a lot of situations where you need to get projects or files moved around, but that's optional.

I will keep that in mind :)

What formats do you plan on editing? This machine is really shooting for Red Territory.

You'll have no problems doing any DVCProHD, and even AVCHD will edit natively on this system.

Core i7 is extremely fast for editing. If you can get 2.6ghz or higher you'll be sitting pretty for a long time.

As for now editing is all CPU and Ram. If your video data rates are 35megabytes per second or lower, you could get away with single drives (or raiding them for redundancy depending on how important your work is).

Yes it is for DVCProHD editing. Let me know the kind of Hard Drives I should use. I am planning for 1TB of SATA and 500GB of faster hard drive. Can't afford SOLID STATE as of now. What else can use?

And also. I will be using this machine only for editing and no games. Please tell me if Graphics cards are really that important? If not, i can make use of the money somewhere in a better way. Should I have any Video card for DVCProHD editing?

The graphics card DOES matter with Premiere Pro; in Windows, PP uses it for real-time preview acceleration.

I would look at a better, more pro sound card (M-Audio, for example), and a better, more pro speaker system. Creative is geared toward games and won't give you the truest representation of the sound.

Which music card do u suggest and which music system? Also do tell me a graphics card which is for professional editing. I heard Quadro are better than GTX or GTS for editing but they r expensive :(

I have been trying to find out how important the gpu is. Even on adobe 's forums the answer is not clear with two conflicting views. Just like above. One party says its not really important, meaning that other considerations such as cpu, raid and ram have a greater impact on video preview and transcoding.
On the forums I have read every other message contains a conflicting view. When actually this should be a clear numerical. yes or no. so after weeks of researching i am no clearer as to, will i be throwing money away investing in a geforce gtx 295 graphic card. Of course i will be investing in the other parts mentioned.

GPU Acceleration

GPU Acceleration

Heres something to read.

I use an NVIDIA 8800GTS with my 8core Xeon, 8 Gig Ram setup on CS4.

It works I guess. My computer is so fast by itself don't really know how much of the GPU is utilized.

Never really bothered with any benchmark utility program to test it , because I am only assuming it is beneficial.

Oh by the way, avoid installing programs with conflicting GPU rendering, my setup gets buggy when I test alot of different visual programs. Resolume and other VJ apps.

Hope this helps.

I just learned that geforce gtx graphic cards are made for gaming, and quadro graphics card are made for editing and other professional use. Though their hard ware looks alike but their drivers are programmed for different use. So, many forums they advice Professional to opt for Quadro instead of Geforce.

Hence Quadro FX 170 with 512MB Memory size and 128-bit Memory Interface is better than GTX 295 with 1792 MB Memory size and 876-bit Memory Interface for Professionals. Please correct me if I am wrong........

I know you probably don't remember where you got that information. But if you do can you point me to the source material.

thanks man

It is not just one website but it was a summary of what I researched on the net. Do a google search for GTX vs QUADRO and you will find many links which should help you. One of them is

PS: This is not what I am sure of, it is just what I went through. Please correct me if I am wrong in my understanding

Exactly how much of a difference the GPU makes, I can't really say -- I do know I don't have nearly the problems playing back AVCHD footage that the Mac guys report -- the Mac version doesn't have GPU acceleration support, so I believe the GPU acceleration is what makes the difference.

Whatever you do,whatever you bought, as long as adobe can not fix the crashing issues it will not worth.I use premiere for all my projects, including high budget commercials.I use it on xp 64bit with,2X3.2 xeon cpu,10TB total raid disks,12gb ram,Nvidia quadro cx.Whatever you do it crashes,so before we pay thousands of dollars,i think we need to force them to build a good NLE.I am fun of premiere but bored so much because of these things. We don't need to upgrade our pc's like crazy, after some point premiere can not be faster...Thats the way it is.It always been the last one for new codec supports.I am sure they will release avc-i support in around 3 years, just before cs5:)
