Re: Good news from Glidecam

hi did anyone manage to find a cheaper alternative to glidecam? i am thinking of buying the V 16 and its quite expensive. ESPECIALLY when you consider the USD is = about 48 rupees ::)

Re: Good news from Glidecam

Your not getting the V16 for the DVX are you?

<<The stabilizer is a great tool in the box for selected shots but unless you doing an E.R. episode Id use it sparingly.>>

Hmm, funny coincidence...as it turns out, I'm operating Steadicam on ER this week!

That French system is interesting looking. The backmounted harness is a tricky one to mass-produce--the original (and best) version of this, the Klassen (http://www.walterklassen.com/steadiover.html) is built to the operator's own measurements. It's much harder to make a universal backmount system, even with a lightweight setup as one would use for DV.

There is a third party arm and vest system for the Glidecams now available at www.indicam.com that may be of interest. I haven't personally tried it but it looks like it should work well enough for many users, certainly for reducing fatigue.[ftp][/ftp]

Re: Good news from Glidecam

I just talked to Glidecam, and they will try and get us one to review when it comes out.

David from Glidecam offered all us DVXuser members a free cool demo DVD to see thier products in action, to get it just email glidecam@glidecam.com and in the subject put " DVXuser Glidecam DVD request " and in the body put your mailing address.

Re: Good news from Glidecam

I've been waiting for more news on this all summer. Can't wait to get my DVD!

Re: Good news from Glidecam

Hi TC! errrm yes we are buying the V 16 for the DVX, i know its an over kill but we re planning on using arriflex at some point. So we 'll upgrade it to a V 20 then. For now we 'll have to use counter weights. Else buying a V 8 now and then going in for a V 20 again would be too expensive. Is this a bad idea?

Re: Good news from Glidecam

Anu, I don't understand. Your going to buy the V16, then sell it and buy a V20? How is that cheaper than buying a V8 and selling it to get the V20? Maybe I'm missing something here.

PS, I've never heard of someone being able to use the DVX on a V16, I thought that the springs and weights would be "not optimal" for our tiny little friend.

PPS, Maybe you will want to wait on this new glidecam solution for us DVXers before ya take the plunge.

Just my humble thoughts!

Re: Good news from Glidecam

Anyone hear when Glidecam is going to release their new two spring action arm glidecam for minidv cameras? I dont recall the model name but from playing with it I would put it in a class much above their current V-8, 16, 20 and lower than their full pro setups. In fact its very similar to the Steadicam Flyer. Anyone?
