I need to get some advice on what mics would work best for recording live shows in somewhat small venues...ive never actually used a mic that wasnt on my DVX so im looking for some suggestions on the best way to go about it....any input at all would be helpful...thanks

Orchestral, rock, jazz, barbershop? How much money you have to spend (if you are looking for BEST sound and not just buying equipment, "Hire a sound guy")?

Recording live music shows for playback later is one of the trickiest sound questions to give some standard answer to. The guys that do it well make the big cheese.

Cheers

its actually for a documentary on an electronica type band....but it may end up being for something kinda big and it basically got thrown into my lap............and i would be dumb to pass it up..so im kinda learning on the fly....but sound ..at least good sound seems so .....hard to do well....and i want to do it well........so i would say my price range would be.....600-900 if that would even make a dent..

In most situations if that is available that is your best choice.

If you want to create your own video mix, that is another story.

Cheers

Hook up a sennheiser k6P/me66 and a Audio Technica 4073a and you'll have a full on sweet sound recording...

I've shot live rock bands and having soundmixer feed you a line from his board is very clean. Just make sure it isn't too hot of a signal. But I've used a at 4073 as my imput mike and that it worked fine.
