good indie, bad indie

As filmmakers, we should support indies. I don't mean "Saw" or "Garden State." Well, we should support those, but I'm talking about straight to video and very limited release...the true micro-budget films. There are some really good and some really bad movies in this category. What are some really good recent straight to video movies you've seen?

Rolling Kansas - very funny drug road trip movie. Think Bottle Rocket without the following. It's like the first 5 minutes of Super Troopers without the boring 85 minutes that followed. Despite several unmatched cuts, it was very professionally made.

Going to see Primer after work...it's in limited release but I believe it's been out for a few years (will have to double check imdb to make sure.)

I dont know for sure on this one, but there is a movie called Haiku Tunnel that I enjoyed a lot and it HAD to be straight to video. I dont remember it getting a theatrical release. Just a funny movie and checked it out at B-busters simply because the name caught my eye.

Re: good indie, bad indie

Another must add would probably be L.A. Twister. A tale of two friends who try to get a film made in Hollywood. Funny film. :)

Re: good indie, bad indie

I feel like I'm always the one to throw out Evil Dead into discussions. But IMHO it is a great film worthy of discussion.

Re: good indie, bad indie

I just replied to that. You and John just talked about it. I guess I'm not the only one!

Yeah, I can't remember who sings "Stuck in the middle with you" either, but it sounds alot like the Steely Dan stuff that came out around the same time.

the happiness of the katakuris, ever though it came out in theaters it was shot on all digital for pretty cheap, and was hilariously magnificent.
