good head, ugly legs...

I have a pretty cheap video tripod that I'd like to upgrade soon. After reading through past posts it looks like I should get a bogen 503. I'm considering just putting a 503 head on the legs of this one for now. Is unreasonable to add a great head to mediocre legs?

It's a SLIK, something I've never heard of before. I was given it a couple years ago. It's this model:

The 503 is a ball head. It won't fit on that without some work and/or more parts.

That's what I was thinking; looks like I'll be getting a whole new rig, which isn't a bad thing. Thanks!

If you want an inexpensive alternative, check auctions on ebay for Amvona. Dynatran is the brand. They have 2 kinds of this style. Carbon and Alluminum. Mine is alluminum and I think I paid 17$ and and 24$ shipping. My 503 came flat so I had to pick up this to fit the head to the legs.
