Good DVD program

Screw all the software and all the crap needed to make a dvd....
Do like I did...

Get a $ 300 sony DVR (they make one for 8.5GB dvds), and simply record your movie, simple, real time recording, great picture, great sound...awesome!

PPRO sucks at making DVDs...

I'm currently using a PC... so far, the only good ones that I've found are extremely expensive... hopefully you have better suggestions?

What do you consider "good," and why?

How does this work Pimp?

How are you hooking it up to your NLE?

I'd say check out DVDlab, but I'm currently having a lot of trouble simply placing separate video on a single track. Instead, there's a little pause in between each section, and I can't skip backwards.

I hear a lot of people talk about Adobe Encore, too. Check it out. Otherwise, as with all things your best, most highest quality option in the realm of private use is anything for Mac. Sucks, don't it? Still not affordable for a lot of us. Damn ultra-proprietary electronics...

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

I consider one that gives me a substantially wide variety of options to be good, for example, extremely tweakable dvd menus (every aspect of it customizable), a large amount of features that I can incorporate into the dvd (multiple audio tracks, different video tracks), etc.

Any suggestions?

If DVD Architect were sold separately, I'd recommend it, but it's not. (Not that I don't heartily recommend Vegas, which I do.)

But what kind of a budget are you looking at?

Pretty interesting idea.

I use two different authoring programs. One is Adobe Encore on a PC, the other is Scenarist on a SGI workstation. Of the two, only Encore is reasonably priced. Each has their virtues, but for an "inexpensive" solution, I would recommend Encore, it is extremely easy to learn and integrates really well with Photoshop.

You can't really "author" DVDs with something like that. Your options will be extremely limited, your picture quality is beholden to analog inputs, and you have no option for 5.1 surround-sound.

Thanks David. I guess it isn't such an interesting idea. LOL! It's a cheap and lazy idea!

400 - 500 bucks is tons. You can get encore for $350 or less. As with anything, shop around for best price.

That Sony product Edweirdo linked looks pretty good for $130 too!
