Good deed for the day.

I absolutely love that episode. Hugh Laurie has some of the BEST facial expressions.

Laurie's awesome. They shot a House episode just down the block from my house when I lived in LA. I was pretty jaded after living in LA for almost 20 years, and probably wouldn't have even stopped to look at any other shoot. But I geeked out on seeing him walk up and down the sidewalk in character.

I know your a solid guy MG.

I guess my squirrel stories aren't hitting any hot spots. Oh well.
I would like nothing more than to go work for these wilderness organization guys.
Hell, I'll live in a tent. I don't care.

The rest of you's can go shoot the poo poo out of each other over drugs or whatever war your into at the moment. I don't really give a flying poo poo.

Whatever turns your crank man.

To be honest, there are so many squirrels here where I live that I don't really care anymore.

At my previous university, the squirrels were SO abundant that they were actually considered the pseudo-mascot for the school (real mascot was the Mean Green). Several years ago, there was an albino squirrel living on campus that made headlines (not kidding). It was found dead in the campus square, so students organized a funeral for it where hundreds showed up to pay their respects.

'S'ok, I'ma stick to dogs and horses. Squirrels can go to hell.

@jscottprice:

No offense taken man. Likewise I hope any of my posts aren't taken offensively also.

I mean, having MG come in here and slam me, haha, that's cool.
I guess we don't see eye to eye on this one, but like him, I don't give a poo poo. But I appreciate it man.

Thanks for responding and giving your opinion. That's all that counts to me man. At least your thinking and you have the guts to express your opinion. That's all I was asking for.

I guess I could share a good deed I did related to animals...

A few years ago, I was in my backyard tending to things. I saw a baby bird in the grass under the big token tree. Looking up, I could see the nest had been torn up by a heavy rain that morning. Mommy was nowhere to be seen.

I don't know how long that baby bird had been there, and I suspected the mother would never find it or be able to tend to it. I didn't want my dog to eat it, and I didn't want it to slowly die from starvation or exposure.

So I grabbed a hoe from the garage and rammed it as hard as I could onto the baby bird's head, which seemed to kill it instantly, or at least as quickly as humanely possible with the available tools.

It was sad, just a cute little bird that had no chance.

It makes me sad to think of it now...I just put my aforementioned dog of 15 years to sleep two weeks ago. Watching animals die has to be one of the hardest things to do. The only consolation is knowing it's right.

"hoe" ? I was gonna say.

I'm not sure if you guys remember this nice little poem. It's around in different variations in Canader eh?. Mostly in different jails from what I've heard. I first read it on a wall in the Calgary Remand Center. My buddy from Cape Breton sais he heard a variation of it while in the Quinte Detention Center.

So whaaaat? You never been to poo pooing jail?

A yellow bird with a yellow bill
landed upon my window sill
I gently lured it with a piece of bread
then gently crushed is poo pooing head

That's the poem. Just saying. I didn't write the poo pooing thing.

//Here you go. poo poo it. Just to be totally off topic. I like this guy. A fellow Canuck.

Why should we feel guilty and get frowned upon for saying we did something decent? Ya know?

Some people think that if one shares a good deed they have done, then the good deed was done for their ego. By giving a homeless guy $5, you're actually just paying $5 for people to think you're a good person.

I disagree with that belief though. If it's best to be a good person secretly, how are "less-good" people going to have an example to follow?

It's a really difficult subject actually. Prior to the American Civil War, if you were a plantation owner who chose to not use slave labor, would you be self-righteous to speak up about it?

I wouldn't know. I don't do any good deeds that I will admit to. Matter of fact, since my secret is out........I'm going to go find some puppies and kick them to repair my rep. Anyone got some puppies available for kicking?

Blame Gord T. for my puppy kicking escapade. Here, puppy, puppy, puppy. Not going to hurt you, just gonna kick you.

LMAO!

I can respect that. But do you mind if I ask why you think that way?
I don't mean to put you on the spot. No need to respond if you don't want to, I understand.
It's just an odd way of thinking to me, for I'm sure, my own way of thinking. It just seems odd to me. Doesn't it? I don't know.

There have been long tortuous philosophical discussions on the subject but from my perspective the benefit is that charity anonymously worked - from the beneficiary's perspective - could have come from anyone. Meaning that to the degree that there is gratitude, it's generalized to the community rather than focused upon one individual which is a net social benefit.

But since there is also a communal benefit to people financing public buildings, services, or charities I don't object to public donors putting their names on the useful things they finance if it makes them happy. And it's likewise more beneficial for people to perform good works than not, so if people enjoy talking about whatever they do, that's fine so long as they are doing something.

Good for you Gord!

...and just the other day, I had to stop traffic and pick-up a good size snapping turtle and escort him off the road.
All the time, I was thinking.... I could just throw this guy in the back of the truck and leave him off on my Ex's front porch (The mind is a strange thing)!

So... with that thought, I think I nulled-out any good Karma I might have created.... D'OUGH!!

:Drogar-Shock(DBG):

Working on a show in Charleston a couple years ago, we were housed on John's Island. It was a pretty regular occurrence to find turtles in the road - especially first thing in the morning. Anyway, left the condo and drove out toward James Island and saw a HUGE snapping turtle right in the middle of traffic. I blocked the road with my car and proceeded to try and find a safe way to pick him up. And he wanted no part of it. I actually found myself talking to him as I moved him, "...don't bite me... trying to help! Help me, baby Jesus."

Anyway I got him safely out of harms way, deep in the palmettos and underbrush near the water and where he'd have to really work to get back into trouble.

Later that morning, I realized I'd put him right back from where he must have been crossing from. D'oh! I've always laughed thinking about how happy he must have been about the help I gave him.

Dude, trust me, I wasn't slamming you.

Good on you for saving the little tree rats.

Really.
