Hi all. Apologies if this isn't the right forum for this, but it was the best place I could find at the time.
I've come across a pretty good deal for a Mac Pro (mid 2010 for $2000) and have a few questions that could really use some insight from those more experienced the me.
Here are the specs:
Mid 2010 model (example)
2.4GHz dual quad core (8 cores) Xeon "Westmere" processors
6gb ram
1 TB Hard drive
Super drive
Radeon 5770 HD 1gb
OS X
Maybe keyboard and mouse
No Apple Care
1. Is this a good deal in your opinions?
2. I was originally thinking of getting a customized MBP first but with this opportunity it's got me wondering about the performance of the Mac Pro vs. MBP for editing and post production. More specifically photoshop, premiere, and after effects. For this type of work would a beefed up MBP suffice? Would I notice the difference?
3. The reason I wanted an MBP is for the portability factor, I'm a graphic designer and haven't needed the portability factor. But I assumed that it would be handy for editing video on set, or reviewing footage on set, just generally useful to have while filmling. I don't have a whole lot of experience on an official shoot so I'm assuming here. My approach to filming is very much indie, so would there be a use for a MBP in these situations?
Thanks for your help all!
