Good Compression for WMV

I've been editing my 16:9 24p shot shows on FCP HD and aften have to get the final product compressed to what my clients call "a high quality WMV file".
I can get Sorenson QT movies (640x360) which are really good or even Mpeg-4 Video files which are also very good, but when it comes to WMV I still can't make a good looking file on this format.
I wonder if someone has gone through this before and could give me some advices on which software/compressor should I use.

It's not cheap, but Sorenson Squeeze 4 is superb. I'm suprised that you can't get FCP to render a high quality WMV file because my experience has been that WMV files arer *easier* to compress and get quality results compared to QT files. Maybe you should ask folks in the FCP forum to see if they have any settings recommendations. Otherwise, Squeeze 4 will output beautiful files.

Thanks for your quick reply Barry.
Unfortunately I work on Mac and either Sorenson Squeeze or FCP do not output wmv files.
I would then have to buy the Windows version and work on a PC Station, which I was willing to avoid.
I am currently using Cleaner to output thte wmv files, but am looking for somehing better.

Seems strange to me that Sorrenson mac based would have no provision for wmv output? Wondering what the thinking was behind that? If you consider the end user/viewer as your potential market, seems to me you'd want to have the windows audience provided for, funny politics in there someplace what?

I agree, but unfortunately it is a fact.
Neither FCT nor Sorenson Squeeze are able to output wmv files.

Sorry, I didn't realize that both FCP and Squeeze (Mac) don't support WMV. It seems really odd to me and I'd agree with with Mino--there must be some jerkiness on the part of MS, Apple or both companies. I mean, the excreble and worthless Real format is included on both versions--too bad there aren't any clients that want that. Cleaner used to be the leader in compression tools, but I feel like they've really let the quality slip. I bailed on Cleaner for Squeeze 4 (Win).

There's a program called Compression Master (see link), but I don't know anyone that uses it--it could be a good WMV solution for you.

Compression Master is very good, but expensive. I've also had some compatiblity issues with the WMV files (haven't figured out why though).
Try Flip4Mac. It doesn't do batch unfortunately, but allows you to export directly from FCP and the Pro version has MBR which dramatically increases the quality.
Hope that helps.

After exporting a video from QuickTime I used the WMV-9 component to output it.
The transformation into a WMV file was successfull and I could view it on my computer but the person I e-mailed it to received the following message:
<The File name, Directory name, or Volume Panel Syntax is incorrect>
Since I'm very new at this I must have done something wrong. Can somebody help me?
