Good comp. to buy

I'm looking for a desktop that I can use when my powerful desktop is busy with long renders. I'm looking for something that I'd be able to play games on and download things quickly.

I hear Dell's computers are overpriced, and they have some upgrade issues. What is a good brand that has a price range of $300-$500 for a desktop that doesn't need to be extremely fast.

yeah dell=upgrade issues. i mean there not bad pcs or anything but... i dont personally have one but a couple of my friend got in the same situation as you and got a emachine. they were happy with it.

Zack Attack do you know a good combo of things to buy to get the most power for the least amount of money?

I've made upgrades to my computer and have a lot of knowledge about parts, but don't have much knowledge about prices and what is a good deal.

Anything helps. For starters: what would be a good processor to get? I haven't looked into dual core prices, and I probably wouldn't need one. I'd hope that I can get a regular processor that is real fast for pretty cheap, because of the new technology that is out. Any recommendations?

AMD has some cheap dual cores right now, because they are trying to compete with Intel's processor release. Check out newegg.com and tigerdirect.com for some deals. Even if you want cheap I wouldn't go too cheap on the processor and motherboard, those things need to last, otherwise everything else can be pretty cheap because you can replace them. But if you want to play games on it, depending on the games, you are going to need a pretty good system. Just check out those 2 sites and read the reviews.

I just ordered a Core 2 Duo CPU and a new mother board, all the rest of the parts im stealing from my other computers spare parts....

webdog, I have a question. If I get a new cpu chip and motherboard, will my old RAM work with it? Will everything else be compatible with the new versions of things?
