Good buy? If not, what?

Man, I have been researching these little recorders to where my eyes and ears are friggin bleeding, I swear.

It's down to this:

Zoom H4N

Edirol R-44

Fostex FR-2LE

PCM-D50

I found a Fostex with a transparent preamp mod here for pretty cheap:

The Edirol, I think, is probably the best of the bunch, but it's also twice (or more the price). The question is -- is it twice as good as the other three listed?

The PCM kind of weirds me out because of the no XLR inputs. I know that doesn't mean everything, but...

Also, I'd probably go the juicedlink route if I did the H4N or the PCM (or would it be better still to go Juicedlink through the original H4's line in?)

Any final thoughts on this would be appreciated. I've been contemplating this for a while so I'd like to finally move forward.

I think you're gonna like it - I've got an unmodded Fostex and it sounds great, I can only bet that the modded one is even better! It's a very cool recorder.
