Jeremy Ordan Major Contributor Mar 2, 2006 #2 If cost is your only concern then go with the Gitzo. I have two (one aluminum and one carbon fiber) and love them. The lightwaves are better, but more expensive. From that point, the price goes up. Do a search though, we've discussed this extensively.

Jeremy Ordan Major Contributor Mar 2, 2006 #4 There is a significant weight difference between the two, but on a long day of shooting, an ounce is a big weight difference. If you are not doing professional sound and cost is a concern, you'll be more than happy with the aluminum.

Blaine Mr. Hollywood Mar 3, 2006 #6 I've been very happy with the carbon fiber Gitzo. Light but sturdy. I've got the cable running through the pole instead of on the outside.
