Barry I hate you for doing this to me because I have been wanting to buy that DVD for a while now but just can't afford it right now XD Being a student working part time doesn't give me lots of cash sadly, but one day I'll have to buy a copy.
Very nice set. You won't be disappointed buying this set. Barry used a lot of lights that most of us already own. This is self-promoting (obviously) but our "Lighting For Film & Television" DVD set is exactly about that. We have interviews and walk-throughs with Macgregor and Levie Isaacks, ASC, and the disc shows two short films that we shot with Macgregor and walk-throughs of the lighting setups and why he chose what he did.
Get your hands on some lights, give yourself enough time, and try to mimic something you've seen that you thought looked great. The resources mentioned here are great and all, but getting my hands on lighting and trying to do different techniques with them has been the greatest learning experience I've ever had.
Considering all the resources it provides, yes. It was worth it to me.Really thinking about becoming a friend of the ASC...Ken, have you taken the plunge? Worth it?
That's a good site, and here's another good site by an ASC member: http://www.rondexter.com/ .I think one of the best things I've found is RogerDeakins.com
