can anyone recomend a good mixer for audio editing. I'm looking to spend a couple hundred bucks. I also want to get either the m-audio 2496 or the 1010LT to use with the mixer.
Portable or studio? Not that I know that much about audio, but those are two very different applications, so if you specify which you're talking about you'll get better feedback...
That certainly cleans things up then... I think we should just wait for Barry_S or oleg or one of the other audio guru's to chime in. I've been partial to Mackie mixers, and I had a Behringer which performed decently, it's like a Mackie ripoff in design, but I'm not sure the internals are quite up to the same standards as the price is so much lower. If you don't have much bank, the Behringer might be a compelling choice, but Mackie's are pretty good. But I'm sure the experts will have much more useful info for you.
You should make sure to think through exactly what you need the mixer for in the studio. Do you really plan to mix in the mixer, or in the computer? You may be using it primarily as a "monitoring section" between the computer and the speakers, in which case you won't need anything fancy or big. Will you be recording much through your mixer? Preamp quality and channel count may then factor in a lot. Will you be riding levels "live" during a mixdown? Fader quality will become important.
great point, I would use mine for monitoring sound and doing mixing in the computer, if this is the case what does the mixer provide me and how would the new mackie onyx line with the firewire card help me with dv editing on an NLE system? I am outputting mainly to DVD and will start working with 5.1.
I wanted to know the same thing. I was going to add a mixer to my set up but I didn't know how I could hook it up to the computer and be able to pot up or pot down the audio in Final Cut Pro via the external mixer. Is there a way instead of using the computer mixer? So far, I have been using it or adjusting the audio right in the timeline.
Damn the Onyx series look and sound nice. I like the Firewire I/O as that will illiminate a separate sound card and the chance to do more portable recording to harddisk. Any thoughts on that? And has anyone used this set-up with this particular mixer (w/ firewire)
The Onyx Firewire port is juts to transfer audio, right? We can't control automations on the virtual mixer of our audio programs from it's knobs, right? I mean, If we could, that would be a real cost effective solution for a Digi 002 alternative...
yeah was just wondering that too... damn that would make it an even more solid purchase. If it isn't set-up to do that then it will soon with new software. Anyone using MAXmsp and know about people writing code for this thing?
