Hey guys. Here is a revolutionary new mounting system for mics and run and gun shooting. It will not work for everyone.
step 1 - run a 3-5 foot xlr cord out of your cameras input.
step 2 - Plug the other end into your shotgun mic.
step 3 - ... stick the microphone into your afro through the back and push it in so that the tip of the mic is almost coming out of the front but not quite. You may now fix up your hair to make sure you are still lookin good.*
* Wig may be used. Do not use clown wig or you may be laughed at or you may have to invest in clown makeup and suit so no one recognizes you.
ADVANTAGES: This system is a shock mount and a wind blocking system all in one! It is also a good way to not draw attention and stay low profile. You can run the XLR cable from the mic, straight into a recorder which can also be mounted in the afro for added stealth.
One great thing about this is that it allows solo users to control the direction that their mic is pointing, independent from the camera movements. In this way it shares many of the advantages of having a boom operator (the mic also comes from above when it is in your hair - just like a boom mic!!!).
I hope you all enjoyed this article. So stick that mic in your hair, grab a camera, get out there, and make some movies! For those without afros, I suggest you start growing your hair out a bit and get a perm. Go in about 6 times for maximum afro-ness. I went to different salons so that the hairdressers didn't think I was weird and because I didn't know how it would turn out. Well, I took the risk for the community and I'm glad to report it works better than ever expected.
There are also several ways to achieve stereo audio, either by moutning two mics up there, or by recruiting a friend (must have a afro). They could even be in the scene and no one would know! If the scene is of two guys with afros talking, just put mics in each of their hair and have them mic each other! Don't be surprised if soon all of the big hollywood stars begin growing afros.
