Going to lose my mind...

I've been using Vegas for quite some time now and I can't render a video and get prime quality out it. I always get what looks like compressed video, interlacing, etc.

Right now, I am using Vegas 8. I shot the video at 24f at 1080i and want to render it in Vegas 8 and upload it to Vimeo.

Okay, can someone give me step by step instructions right from the beginning of opening Vegas and using the proper properties for the video and right up to the proper render options. I would appreciate this greatly. PLEASE help me!

You exported in 1440x1080, and this can create problems with many other video services, as almost none supports non-square pixel resolutions. Vimeo added the 1440 to 1280 conversion after I asked them to do so a few months ago, but there's no guarantee that they will keep it for ever. You are better off exporting at 1280x720, as per my tutorial.

I tried the 1280x720 option and the the video looks tremendously worse:

Should it look that much worse?

Yes, because you can only upload a single HD file per week with the free version of Vimeo. You need to buy their PLUS package to get unlimited HD. So yes, my 720p tutorial is the right one, but you can't upload more than once a week in HD.

Well, I was uploading numerous 1440x1080 files and they all looked a lot better than the 720. What gives?

You were probably replacing the same video instead of creating a new one, or Vimeo has a bug and creates 720p videos all the time for 1440 videos even if you already used your allowance per week. As I said, my tutorial works. Replace your current 1440 video with the 720p video (or wait a whole week) as per my tutorial and it will be fine.

It must be a bug since I uploaded different videos. Try it yourself.

I'll vouch for Eugenia, she knows her stuff. Because of her, I was able to trick out my site with some pretty snazzy flash players, etc ... which blow up nicely to HD all things considered: www.berlin-themovie.com

I'd take her suggestion & wait your week or whatever you need to do, then try her tutorial/upload again.
