Going to Hollywood!

As it says in my profile I'm from Denmark, but this summer I'm going to visit some family in L.A. I was there 12 years ago when I was a little kid, but since then my movie-making interest has grown significantly (and so have I). So my question to all of you L.A. guys is: What do I, as an absolute movie-making freak, want to see. I mean last time I went to Universal Studios, and even though I might wanna do that again, I'm thinking there must be something more serious, with emphasis on the actual filmmaking process and not just theme-park-rides. Loved the bus-ride through the sound stages in Universal though :)

Last time I was in LA we went on a tour of NBC it was pretty interesting and I enjoyed it but that was 8 years ago.

I don't live in LA, but I live close enough to visit frequently, which I do. I would say you should go to Universal again, maybe visit the network lots (they might have tours, you should call/email before hand) I have never done any filmy stuff myself down there. If you're interested, they have bus tours of celebrity homes. I'll put some thought into it...

This place is pretty cool. http://www.mole.com/ or maybe play with some of the toys and birns and sawyer.

Might check AFI--not sure but maybe they have some places open to the public.

Griffith Park Observatory feels like Hollywood.

Check the burned ruins of Errol Flynn's estate in the Hollywood Hills.

James L. Brooks will lecture at the WGA theater in June.

If you want to meet some actresses, eat at any restaurant in West Hollywood, they'll be your waitress.

I suggest skipping the walk of fame unless you like looking at transients and crackpots.

Call Paramount Studios and arrange a tour. The tour here is just you and a couple other people, with your own golf cart and guide to show you around.

Absolutely superior to Universal, if you want a close-up look at a working studio lot.

Best place for ogling starlets and unbelievably hot chicks...The Urth Cafe on Melrose. Sit back, have some coffee, and watch the parade of hotties.

Ha, thanx for the advice on the girls, but I am kind of bringing my girl-friend, so I guess that won't go down too well :)

Sad Max: Seriously? Where do I call?

Also, if you want to grab a TV show taping, just go to the courtyard of the Mann's Chinese and you'll be accosted by 50 guys trying to give you free tickets.

Call Josh Jack's office at Paramount, 323-956-4548.

Tours are offered Monday through Friday, at 10:00, 11:00, 13:00 and 14:00.

You can bring up to eight people/party (I think that's the maximum that can fit on a single cart).

*But* there is a catch that I hadn't known about; there's a $250 fee (not sure if it's per-person, or per-party). Which makes the Universal Studio tour more economical, even it it's more touristy...

I think Paramount picuteres of Melrose has a $7 tour.

You're going in the summer? You should try and catch a movie premiere, with the red carpet and all that. Arrive early and wait a while to get a good spot.

$250 for the paramount tour? I thought I saw something when I was down there about it being $7? maybe it was something different...?
