Just wondering what the current editing rate is for editing HD or HDV Video is.
I have heard $700 an hour and up.

I'm new to all this HD stuff, so any help or advice would be great!

Thanks!

I don't think it's that high. In DC the house I interned at was charging ~$200 per hour for a AVID MC Adrenaline room (handles HD).

HDN,
Why don't you just enter Apple's Insomnia film festival and win? Then you'd get your own mobile editing station with FCP and SHAKE! Are you looking for an Edit room with decks, audio monitoring, color correction, and the whole works? or just a large hard drive RAID and a high power computer?

I have an SD edit suite Running VEGAS 8.0 on an AMD64X2 6000+, 3GB Ram, Nvidia 8800GTS 615MB, with a Raid5 Aray with 2 TB of space. 22" HD Monitor and a 32" HD Preview.

I'm wanting to be able to do everything with HD I do with SD at this point which is everything.

loving the ram here man and the raid5. so how often would u be needing HD? It seems to be the popular thinks nowadays so it'd be worth the investment!

Most of the boutique facilities I work with charge the same SD or HD. The difference between the two is that HD takes longer because the render times are longer. In the end the client pays a bit more (depending on the amount of rendering) but there's no surcharge just because the material is HD.

in Los Angeles, an offline edit bay (FCP or Avid) will run $800 to $1200 a week and an editor will be anywhere from $350 to $1200 a day depending on experience and the job. online rates are typically anywhere from 1.5x to 2x those amounts.

So....what's the problem - that should be able to handle HD fine............shouldn't it?

Just make sure to use Alt-Tab to flip to Avid when the client comes around
