Going GREEN! (Greenscreen that is)

I'm putting together a greenscreen studio. I want to do this right, so I'm seeking suggestions. The shots will be head-to-toe at times. Also, due to Phoenix summer temps, I need to use cool lights, such as florescents (or anything else that runs cool, as opposed to tungsten).

I know that lighting the greenscreen as a background 8' away is pretty easy, but needing the green to continue UNDER the talents feet.... well, I'm not sure how to make the lighting right for the key and still do proper key/hair/fill lighting on the talent.

Any help is appreciated!

For a green screen that covers more than one wall and the floor, I usually recommend space light type fixtures or the "poor person's" equivalent which is our 200w 8U bulb. Chinese lanterns would work too but if you use a flo bulb like the 200w there's no need for additional diffusion as flos are already diffused.

Several of those, hanging upside down from mogul socketed fixtures on the ceiling should give you a nice even and flat light all over the green screen "stage" area.

If you have the means/budget, use KinoFlo lights. They're low amperage, and you can achieve any colour temp you want with the change of a bulb (ie. tungsten, daylight, superblue). For seperation, you want the light on the GS to be 2 stops or so hotter, so lighting the subject accordingly shoudn't be a problem. If it's video, eyeball it (with your naked eyes, and the monitor), what you see is basically what you get.

Definitely light with fluorescents. You can find DIY plans on this site. I made some for about 20 bucks and they light my green screen well. For a head to toe, just flood the stage with as much diffused light as you can. Your shot is going to be wide so you don't need to get as much fine detail in the hair and stuff as you would in a close up. Hitting the talent with a little magenta tinged light to balance out the green will help as well.
