Go See Cars

Cars was a crack up. That was the funniest movie I've seen in a long time.

Pixar - John Lassater did a great job. Although a little longer than most animated features my 4 year old nephew and 8 year old niece loved every second of it. Maybe its because I like cars and the nostalgia of route 66 that I liked this movie so much.

From what I've heard the critics are being a little hard on this film, but WTF do they know?

This is a very funny movie. :)

My two and a half year old has made me watch the trailer a gillion times and it's the first movie she's really shown interest in. She actually said "I want to see Cars, daddy." How can I turn that down? :)

Pixar is one of the greats in this industry. They are the closest thing to a sure thing in the film industry. I'm going to see it this weekend, and who cares about the critics. They're all biased anyway.

I LIKED "Cars" but did not love it. For me it was not Pixar's best work. There is a huge gap where the movie slows to a halt and is just uninteresting. It is ALWAYS beautiful to look at--some of the scenes are breathtaking, but there's a paper thin story. About 3/4 of the way through the movie finds its heart and redeems itself, but I thought the reviews were very accurate. It would be a "great" effort perhaps by anyone other than Pixar whom we've come to expect a lot more from.

I agree with that assessment. Cars was good but not great. In my mind, The Incredibles was a hard act to follow and Cars seemed to be just riding on a formulaic story/charm. Either way, it's still worth a watch--the short ("One Man Band") before Cars is worth the price of admission alone.

Yes, I agree with you totally on "One Man Band".

Cars is interesting because all of the elements are there more or less but it just doesn't shine (for me) like The Incredibles, TS 1 or 2, Nemo... it was really really close to just coasting on formula (like...shall we say...Disney), but the last 1/4 really does redeem it. Once it finds its heart it does rise up. But they really needed to work on the script for that first 3/4. A premise spread too thin.

I'm not sure why, I normally love Pixar, but this film just doesn't interest me at all.

Chris

I'm with you on this, and I don't know why either.

Normally, I would jump at the chance, and was excited as hell about The Incredibles.

hmmm.

I may have to go see it anyway, just to admire the leaps they made (yet again) in CG.

Paul Newman and Pixar are cool, but I mean cars just don't get me goin like a superhero movie does. So i'm on the same page as you guys.

Sorry, guys, but I am going to have to say that I did not like Cars. It was okay, but it just didn't hold my interest. I sat there thinking, how could a little kid sit through this?

Just ImO.

I took the 3 and 5 year olds to it today.

Now I'm a big open-wheel racefan and Route 66 'nostalgist', if there is such a
thing... so the racing stuff overall was excellent and the route 66 stuff was
very heart-wrenching. The kids were pretty stiff through the whole thing,
but it was borderline.

For one, it was visually, too realistic. The race scenes were great and the
environments were as expected... problem is that the cars were also too
real... it was the 'cartoon-y' stuff that got a rise out of the kids. Thank
goodness for the tractor 'fart jokes'... they were the best kid laughs in
the show.

Overall, it felt like a bit of a vanity project for Lassiter. He covered all
the bases for race fans with cameos and even satisfied most of the
sub-genres of car fanatics in general... from the low rider guys to the
ricers to the F1 fans.. all in what is essentially a 'nascar' film.

I say good work overall, but not only is this not as accessable as
the other Pixar work... its behind most of the Dreamworks and
Fox CG releases as well.

OK, this just won the Golden Globe.

I didn't think it was Pixar's best effort, and I thought "Happy Feet" was better in a number of ways.

Interesting tidbit -- the "Goodyear" blimp in the movie is labeled "Lightyear," obviously a reference to "Toys."

Now, I didn't see this movie until November. When the Coca-Cola 500 was held at Lowe's Motor Speedway in May, the Goodyear blimp (which always flew over my house on the way there . . . it was only about 3-4 miles away) had "Lightyear" on one side. I had no idea why at the time. But the world premiere of the movie took place at the Speedway that weekend.

Fabulous movie.............. really surprised me. Way-way better than anything else in their resume.

The real DEPTH to the story is truely amazing. Way over the top for kids.

When I saw the preview of this on TV I decided it would suck pond water. My daughter rented it so I watched it and was very pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed this a lot more than Monster House.

i thought it sucked boring and not up to pixar storylines great technically but horrible story. im surprised over the hedge wasnt mentioned. i know alot of people loved that movie.... but happy feet should have probli took it i thought.

Is it Disney/Pixar's best? Not on your life...but then again, if the level of comparison is Finding Nemo, The Incredibles & both Toy Stories...

Still a damned good film with both heart & soul, but I gotta go with Monster House as my favorite animated contribution of the year. That baby blew me away.
