Go Pro 3 handheld stabilizer?

Hi all, I'm going on a trip where I have to pack crazy light. As such I really have to pair down my video rig. However, as the main reason for this trip is to shoot some video and document some areas, I'd love to be able to do more than get just static shots with my DSLR. I was thinking that bringing along a GoPro or two would allow me some flexibility in my shots with the added benefit of not taking up too much pack space. I'd love to find some sort small stabilizing unit for the GoPro... something I could use to walk through areas/buildings to document what they look like while keeping a rather fluid and steady image. Sure, a DSLR and a steadycam would be nice, but its pretty impractical for my space restrictions. Also it'd be cool to be able to use it to get some b-roll type footage while walking and talking with some people. I could actually see quite a bit of use in my setup for one of my GoPros, but it would be over the top if I could figure out some practical stabilization. I'll be taking my DSLRs, so these will be ancillary tools. Any thoughts or experiences with what I should be looking for? Thanks! -jon

i bought this one...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/USA-Z-one-3...er-Gimbal-for-Gopro-Hero-3-3-4-/321573473060?

there are a bunch of these types of gimbals on ebay & amazon. BUT...this was the "only one" that would accept the GoPro with the "LCD backpac attached". I'm not sure why the image in this add does not illustrate that because it did when i bought it last november. its super smooth and has a 2 modes of operation plus tilt up and tilt down buttons. enacting those tilt buttons is pretty smooth and if your moving to any degree with the gimbal you won't feel the tilt engaging. very impressive. my son plans to put it on a boom stick so he can go out and over mountain edges. the company "does" sell a wired (cable) remote that you can run down a pole for operation. i thought it came with the gimbal but it didn't. ill order one in the spring. if i recall its maybe around $20. batteries are removable and comes with a charger. i have yet to get additional batteries. it hasn't gotten used too much yet because of winter time and not really out there as much. my son camps about 6 times a year and this will replace the Steadicam Smoothie.

you can find it cheaper than the place that i bought it from but the user comments from this place looked to be the best so i went with it and it came surprisingly fast!

highly recommended!!

Thanks David. that looks pretty sweet! I was looking at one of the feiyu tech g4 units because it also is one of the only ones I've seen that will allow the use of a bacpac with a gopro. But no one has one in the US (that I can find), and i have a trip I'd like to bring it on. The ebay dealers in China can't get me one in time. Bummer. I'll have to check this one out. Thanks!

isn't the bacpac basically the same dimensions as the bacpac LCD? I'm thinking it is which would make the feiyu work as well too? i was under the impression that the feiyu 3 axis wouldn't work with anything other than the basic bare gopro like all of the other ones i researched. you state thats not the case though. which model are you saying that will work? I'm wondering is your looking a model that i didn't come across.

thanks and good luck!

As far as I can tell, there have been a couple different feiyu tech units released this past year... the g3 and the g3 ultra which do not work with anything but a standard/non bacpac LCD. Then they released the g4 which does work with it. I cant find the g4 at any US retailers at the moment, so maybe it is super new?

ok. thats good info to know that the Feiyu G4 will accommodate a larger than original gopro. not sure i would have done it different but if this one every breaks i will look at this other option as well.
