This is the question I'm sure no one will want to answer....

I bought a cheap copy of FCP Studio 5.1 from a guy... It turned out to be an upgrade. I don't know an upgrade to what for sure. I've got my old sn to my old FC but nothing is on my machine. The FCP Studio install won't take the old SN. What do I need to do to use this or am I screwed?

No it is a bonafide upgrade but I can't use it I guess unless someone has some suggestions. The Studio upgrade doesn't like my old FC s/n during the install. Suggestions?

What you bought was a "Crossgrade". You need a valid serial number and 5.0 version of FCP to make it work. BTW- a crossgrade is $50 from Apple. You probably got suckered.

Well, yeah. You probably got 4 disks which don't include the media disks that were with your FCP 5.0. The upgrade will look for the programs (FCP, Soundtrack Pro, Motion and DVD Studio Pro on your computer. While it says it may require your serial number, it didn't ask me for mine...it just upgraded what I had.

I believe, but am not sure, there are Crossgrade options (which have different price points) that will allow you to upgrade from a single program...
