Gloves and controls

Does anyone have a recommendation for gloves that keep you warm without being so thick that you have trouble manipulating the controls on camera and sound gear?

It'd be great if there was something I could pick up at a store, but if not I'm willing to order.

Should I just go to the store and poke around? Or is there a proven brand?

Thanks,
Naveen

When working in VERY cold weather, I use 2 pairs of gloves: an outer "shell" of pigskin, deerskin, or some other leather, and "inner liner" that is really just a pair of fingerless work gloves (bought at Home Depot). I stuff little "HotHands" hand-warmer packets (about $ 1.00 a pair at Home Depot) in the palms between my skin and the fingerless gloves for those times when I have to remove the outer shell for dexterity. (I've also found that a couple of JonE handwarmers in my pockets are worth their weight in gold when trying to fight off cold temps, and last a long time).

If you find HotHands too big/cumbersome, there are smaller versions available for ear-warmer headbands. Those I've only found on the web.

Stay warm!

I do the same two glove mitt combo, but I use football gloves underneath, like receivers wear. They are not too warm, but they stop the direct touch metal burn, and you can get thicker versions of those gloves. It has worked in ten hour days at -30 for me.

Yeah the receivers gloves are great liners for warmer gloves. I have a pair of underarmor gloves that are so comfy I barely take them off in the winter. Most of the time I wear them without any gloves over them and dont get too cold. Like prairieboy said they take that edge off when you are touching metal. They also have a nice grippy palm, that makes carrying things a bit easier with numb hands.
