Glorious Light Beams

I'm filming two angels. I plan on green screening them, lowering the opacity and overexposing them against normal video.

I would really love to get some sort of effect similar to the beams of light shown in this flaming lips video:

Do You Realize by The Flaming Lips You'll see the effect a few seconds into the video.

Does anyone know how to do this?
