Glideshot Dolly. What do you think

What are your opinions on this dolly, the gs500, I just ordered it for a film comp coming up this next week and am looking for some feedback from previous users.

Aaron

It is practically identical to the one I have and should work fine for you. You'll get some nice smooth dolly shots with it.

Pookie's suggestion is nice, but it requires one of these. J.L. Fisher quoted me a yearly lease of $700/month on a Model 10 dolly. They are not available for ownership. Track is additional. The wheels are a drop in the bucket...

Model 10 eh? I was on a commercial shoot in santa monica and they were using the 9, I got to try it out it was really cool actually - as a joke I wanted to put my little canon zr60 on it but alas! Anywho - the pneumatic (or hydraulic, I think pneumatic because the grip dude told me how it worked and pointed to this tank with a gauge reading of PSI) arm is HELLA cool.

Anywho - my rant is done, but yah - if you're in a studio setting you don't even need tracks with the fisher dollies alot of the time, or so I was told. They had cool gears that could turn the wheels different way (ie Straight, Crab etc) it was hardcore

Why don't you guys just make a skateboard dolly, I bet it will not cost more that US$100. I made one that took me a day to do and it works well.

yep. building one is the way to go.. its not hard, it just takes alot of time. in another thread here in hardware "custom dolly wheels" ive made an offer to make the wheel sets for reasonable prices for people if theres enough interest and people dont want to make it themselves..

Hmm..for someone who might want to just buy something that works reasonably well and still has a sane price tag, the Glideshot dollies do look promising. Silly question: I assume the pushbars (on the GS500 and GS5000) are removable for easy transport? (But sometimes to assume is to make an ass out of u and me)

Glideshot does make a good product, and fairly affordable. That's why I used their wheels and had my own deck design made with them.

If you are going to make an assumption, make an ass out of you, an "umption" leave 'me' out of it. :) :)

I just bought the wheel kit and went from there - not to diss their decks but you can totally improve on the design if you are inspired to. The wheels are a bargan for what you get. Very high quality construction and good components. - C

I made one a couple of months ago. I bought a box of new skateboard wheels(40) for $20 and bearings $40 on Ebay. Drill some holes in two pieces of angle iron and mount the wheels. I mounted the angle iron to a 1 1/2 " thick piece of plywood (two 3/4" pieces glued together). I made a solid piece of track 12 feet long out of 1 1/2" pipe and 3/4" square tube for the cross supports. I can load it easily by myself on top of my Jeep. I should also mention that I'm a welder but you could get a local welder to make the track for you for about $100 or less.
