Just got the Glidecam 4000, but having trouble balancing it. How many washers for the dvx. What worked for you guys????

I just got mine last week and I had no problem balancing it in few minutes. With the DVX, the Pana d54 battery, lcd open, 1 filter. 2 big washers on each side pretty center should be enough.

Just play with the washers position or the plate position when the weight seem ok for the camera. Also, I found some other washers of different size and weight if I have to go in between adjustment.

I haven´t problems whith the balance. When I bought the glidecam 4000 I recived a lerning DVD that it is very useful.

I too use 4 washers on the bottom and have them just coming to the front of the slots and the center post down 13cm i find this works ok for me....Paul

Okay. I never used a handheld stabilizer before. I am having difficulty narrowing down the adjustments; it seems like there are just too many variables that effect the balance. Anyways, when i pick the glidecam up from a flat surface (table) it remains level. However, the moments i start to walk, the camera begins to rotate and swing. Even when i put my left hand to guide the shaft, it still wobbles. The wobble is mostly a side to side motion. As a result, the image DOES glide, however it sways left and right. Then when you stop walking it has a pendulum effect.

ANny suggestions?

get the steadycam rig that will come out for the glidecam...
until then, the glide cam is a pain to use... for me at least... I always end up crooked frame

dasonras - you may want to watch the DVD or read the manual. It sounds like your problem is that you do need to hold the stick with your other hand to steady the motion. you don't just glidecam with one hand (I wish :):).

Hope that helps

Oh, i am also using the arm brace. Does that make a difference?

I think my biggest problem is the counterweights. I am using two on each side, however should they be closer toward the pole or futher from the pole. I don't understand the telescoping adjustment. I tried it both high and low and saw no difference.

dasonras - there are two basic adjustments you need to make:

1) adjust the front/back and side/side weights to when you pick it up it stays flat
2) adjust the amount of weight so when you hold your camera and grab the bottom and rotate the bottom up 90 degrees so it's parallel with the camera (kind of like a clock pendulum) and you let go, it drops back to vertical in something like 2 or 3 seconds. This should all be covered in the docs.

At that point, it should be balanced fine. Again, it seems to me if you're still having this much trouble, you need to hold the handle to support the rig, but then lightly grip the shaft with 2-3 fingers on your other hand to keep it from swinging around, and so you can aim it, etc.

Thanks for your help. Actually it works fine now that i added the LCD monitor. The monitor weights down the glidecam nicely.

I think Franck is talking about the smooth shooter from glidecam...That looks like the wat to go for glidecam 2000 & 4000 owners
