I just wonder whether anyone has -- or has used -- a Glidecam 4000 Pro with the DVX? What are your thoughts on it? Recommended? Were the shots much smoother? Have you used the body support or arm brace?
Have the 4000 (with quick release plate) and arm brace. Works well when properly balanced and the brace helps although you will still experience fatigue after a short period - unless, perhaps, you're Chuck Atlas. For me, there'll only be certain situations where I'll want to pull it out and I doubt it will be frequently. I got it for a project to execute specific shots. Your mileage and intended use may vary, but I'd ask yourself some honest questions before investing.
I have the 4000PRO and I can tell you it is a VERY demanding piece of technology. First comes the balancing (which you cut in half by adding a manfrotto quick release adapter) then comes the weight. I am seriously thinking about designing and building my own support vest. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT waste your money on the cheap glidecam vest (the one that goes for ~$140.00), if the vest is not spring load corrected it is a waste of time. Good luck and start excercising you arms, you WILL need it! Cheer!
I have the 2000 with extra weights, basically the same thing as the 4000 but a little shorter. And its a *****. I actually used it for a commercial about a month ago and had to do 35 takes of this one technical shot and I couldnt use my arm for about 3 days. I dont have the arm brace though, so that may help.
When I bought it, I actually bought it a few days BEFORE i got the DVX, cause I thought I would use it everyday. In reality, I use it maybe 1 out of every 20 projects.
