glide cam 2000

hi everyone,

i am looking into getting a glidecam 2000 for a friend who just recently purchased a dvx 100a and who has his birthday coming up very soon. he does quite a bit of walking shots, which so far have turned out naturally a bit unstable, so i was thinking of getting him some sort of stabilizer. another friend suggested the glidecam 2000, and as i don't have much money, but also don't want to buy something which won't fulfill its purpose effectively, i wanted to find out if one of you can let me know if this would be a good choice for a stabilizing system and if it is necessary to buy any accessories (like helping to carry the weight) with it as well. i read some of the reviews here, but it is a bit confusing as i found it a bit contradictory.

thank you for your help.

Re: glide cam 2000

The Glidecam 2000/4000 can steady a shot no question, but the shots are going to have to be "really" short....your arm is going to give out very very quickly, esp. with a DVX100 propped on top.
Better to save some $$$ for a body mount with arm if possible, or get used to pain...just try holding a coffee after a few shots...

Good luck

Re: glide cam 2000

I have the GC 2000 Pro and it produces amazing results. Yes, the camera glides on air. It is indeed brutal on the forearm but with proper planning of the shot its not a big deal; like carrying the groceries up the stairs you just have to get it done.

As mentioned, if you have the luxury of purchasing a vest then by all means do it.

Re: glide cam 2000

I posted a topic somewhere in here regarding the animagique steadicam. Great deal for an inexpensive steadycam. It comes complete with arms, vest, etc for about $1600. WOrth looking into to. It had some great reviews.

Re: glide cam 2000

yeah, that magique steady cam is a sweet alternative to the glidcam for 1600.00 I'm starting the magiquecam jar, I just can't keep up with all the toy's that make a project even greater.

Re: glide cam 2000

thank you for your answer...i will try to get at least the brace arm for it...and perhaps at a later date the body vest

Re: glide cam 2000

hi pookle, John Hudson, darkOne and Nick Adams,

i couldn't figure out how to reply to the individual messages (this site i don't find particularly easy to use, but then it might be my oversight of simplicity?)
anyhow, i wanted to thank you all for the time you took to answer my question... i definitely will go ahead and purchase a glidecam, as well as an arm brace and hopefully soon a body vest.
if i can't afford body vest as well as arm brace, is it better to go ahead with arm brace first or body pod?
b & h's prices are about $ 300 for the glidecam, $ 170 for body pod and $ 150 for arm brace...don't know where the $ 1600 from DarkOne comes from...that would be way over my budget for now...i am not planning to get a glidecam with monitor, as the dvx has a monitor anyway and i hope it will work out that way.
again, thanks,
cheerio

Re: glide cam 2000

Hi iklein,

go for the forearm brace, thats where you fatigue fastest, and you'll get a few extra/longer shots.
Don't bother with the 2000/4000 body pod, it isn't meant for moving shots, only static ones...in other words....it's a holder, a waste of money.

The 2000 will work for you just fine, and you get the free bonus workout.

I had a 4000, till I finally got a Steadicam SK-2, so I understand the pain.

Good luck.
