Glass breaking effect? Urgent!

Hi,

I'm shooting something for a client who wants the first shot to be of a picture on a wall, and then the picture breaks to pieces (like broken glass) and the pieces fall on the floor. The next shot is of the pieces on the floor like they were pieces of a puzzle that starts being put together by a child. Is there any default effect for Premiere Pro or After Effect to simulate this? I know this could be done with layers on after effects but this would take too long and I don't have the time. I'll be shooting next thursday and I need to be sure of what I'm doing by then. It would be ideal to do some texts this weekend...so, please, don't be shy and give me what you got.

I'm sure there are videofx transitions that simulate shttered glass but its kinda of cheesy and i dont know how you would create a child putting it together

I wonder if there's some creative way to do this 'for real', rather than through a digital effect? Stop-motion animation, maybe? Interesting challenge.

I would get my girlfriend really mad....you know, just act like a man, and have some mirror with the image printed on it near by. She will of course need something to throw at it but after she does then you can tell her "thanks for your emotional support" then work your acting props in by pulling a nose hair to make you get teary eyed.
Might be easier with Premiere, sorry :(

The only problem here is that the painting is actualy a famous painting from a museum. They will let us shoot there but I think breaking stuff inside might be a bit too much to ask...I liked the mirror idea though ;-)

The shatter on the wall could be done a number of ways.

How about a blue screen in the frame and apply the shatter effect to that.
or
How about a mirror in the frame and reflect a blue screen into it and shatter the mirror for real as a special; effect).

The pieces on the floor - make a jigsaw puzzle of the image and do it for real.

Shatter in AE is the way to go. Choose "glass" as shattered element and play with settings to create right effect, but it has a problem, glass shatters and falls out of the frame window, you need it to land on the ground, so you need a 3D view.
I would use a 3D program such as maya. In the dynamics menu, there is a shatter plugin and you have a 3D world. You can shatter whatever you need, it lands on the floor and it can be re-assmbled by just playing it backwards and adjusting parameters...
I guess all you need is to find a 3d animator...
