Glare?

I shot an interview yesterday and, despite all efforts, I could not get rid of the glare on my subject's glasses. (His office had windows and shiny furniture everywhere!)

He won't be on screen for very long in the final film, but I was wondering what my options are for attempting to lessen the glare in post.

I've attached a still photo for reference.

Any and all help is appreciated.

You can try a luma key to adjust only the highest levels and then lower the glare with the 3-way color corrector. It will tend to get grayish because that area looks to be over exposed.

Have you used the Limit function of the 3-way CC before? The quick way is to use the color picker and click right on the glare. A little softening might help too.

That's when it's helpful to have some black flags on set so you can block those glares, but it's always hard to light people with glasses. Even full side light will get glares if they turn a little.

You could try to clone out the bright spots in Shake or a similar program, but it's going to be a very time consuming process. Another option would be to track the highlights and apply a small brightness reduction right over them so they stand just a bit less. You could do that in Color or Shake.

Either way, you're going to have a tough time of correcting this especially if there's a lot of motion.

If this is the first time you are showing this individual, you could distract the audience briefly from his face by putting his name as a lower 3rd, etc.
