Done with a Sony PD170

With a nice lighting even a PD170 can do gorgeous footage. (apart the noise)

Well isn't she a cute thing.

Yes you're right... the footage looks great. I've never been in the "dvx is great everything else is crap" camp. It's the DP, not the camera.

I just read your bottom signature, so now I'm going to just sit quiet and wait for your answer. My guess is that you're using the light tools that you have to replicate the effects of a ringlight, but from farther away.

Looks fantastic....nice sheen to her hair, warm skintones, and love the soft back/side lighting (if I have it right).
I'd love to know more about your light setup. I can assume this was done with large sources...or at least bounced into a larger reflector?!
Cheers,

Thanks.
The light setup is a standard glamour setting. Bank over the camera, reflector under the camera, 2 umbrellas right and left from the subject.

We noticed the retainer after a pair of minutes so from there on she only smiled with closed mouth (i will post the good takes soon)

Hi SD,

Nice setup, good makeup and excellent video resolution. Yes, on first ECU pix I noticed the tell-tale light rectangle just above the subject's pupil - if it matters, perhaps you might try raising your lightbox a bit and replace that spot with a catch light.

Again, very impressive video quality - congratulations.

Michael

Pardon my ignorance, but could you elaborate a bit for those of us who have not done
studio photography type glamour setups? Is the "bank above the camera" the only light source? Are the umbrellas reflectors only or light sources also? What type of light and wattage? Only asking because it looks incredible!

I agree with you. The pupil seems rectangular..!! Rising the bank and making it maybe round would have been better.

In photography it is sometimes called "clam shell" setup...
Two large lightsources, one above one underneath the lens, wrap the face with light - just like a ringlight does.
I suppose Someday used the umbrellas for aditional fill and some back light / kick...?
Someday, the footage looked really good!

Any chance of seeing a pic of the actual lighting setup or one thats similar?
This kind of stuff really helps a newbie!

Thanks.

Are the umbrellas bouncing light off the reflector under the Camera?

Also what are you using as your backround and how are you lighting it? my guess is muslin lit with blue gel looking at the pictures.

Sweetness good lighting I like it now all you need is a good makeup artist to even out those skin times very uneven and redish..
