Give me some statistics

I'm writing a speech for my public speaking class, it's about why I decided that film would be my major. You have to start out a speech with an "attention getter" I think a mind blowing statistic would do well. Anyone know of any? I was thinking how much money was spent by movie patrons last year on going to the theatre, but I couldn't find it.

Why dont you throw out some stat how only a small percentage of people ever get to do what they really want to do (or how the majority of people end up being screwed doing something they DO NOT want to do)

You are the master of your own destiny, didnt your mother every say.." no one can MAKE you do what you dont want to do, you decide to do on your own."
And its never too late to start. I dropped everything and went back to school for 3D special FX and now im working on a film career. Thats a big step for a dude who drove a tow truck for 10 years.
So theres a statistic, people who realized that its only themselves that hold them back from doing their dreams and did something about it.
