Hi guys,
I just recently acquired a Gitzo systematic tripod. (GT3542LS) I'm a still & video photographer who needs the tripod to do a little bit of both, but mostly I got this mostly for video work. I have a Manfrotto 701HDV fluid head for now but I'm looking for a leveling base/half ball + bowl option for my tripod.
Forgive me if I don't know the jargons or terminologies on this forum. But here are my question(s):
Can i purchase this combination of a Manfrotto Half Ball Leveler (http://amzn.com/B001AQ0YCW) and mount it on the Gitzo 75mm bowl adapter, then on a Systematic 3 CF tripod? (http://amzn.com/B00ANYTO9G) Does it even work? (The Manfrotto + Gitzo fusion seem like the cheaper and lightweight choice)
Or is it better to buy the Gitzo Low Profile Leveling Base altogether??
http://amzn.com/B00ANYTOVE
-With the bowl adapter and Half ball option, I can see the possibility of upgrading to better fluid heads with 75mm balls.
-With the leveling base, I can probably upgrade to flat head fluid heads, though I don't know much about what's out there.
-The Gitzo Systematic leveling base has the new safety catch feature that is good with my tripod.
-One's probably lower profile and brings the center of gravity lower to the ground.
-ALSO, which one supports more weight and is a more stable option in the field?
-Since I'm a still photographer, I have other heads to swap out with: the Wimberley Gimbal head for long lenses OR mount a panoramic tripod head for panoramic work.
My priorities are to future proof my investment, to reduce the bulk and weight tripod so that I can actually haul it around for documentary work. So cost concerns are taking a back seat to this one since I know if you buy the right thing the first time, you'll actually save money.
What do you guys think? What are the advantages and disadvantages? I'd appreciate any feedback or input on this. Thank you so very much!
